Why we use Titanium
With a successful legacy in design and manufacturing of instrumentation microphones
and electroacoustic test & measurement equipment, our microphone diaphragms and
grids are made exclusively of titanium. Titanium offers unparalleled strength-to-weight
ratio, corrosion and fatigue resistant, providing years of supreme and consistent
operation. Unlike many competitive microphones that use plastic-film based (Mylar)
diaphragms, or inexpensive MEMS technology, IDL microphones are designed and
manufactured to remain stable and maintain their specified and calibrated sensitivity-
that is imperative for accurate, transparent, and repeatable multi-microphone immersive
recording applications.
Titanium is a chemical element with the symbol Ti and atomic number 22. It is a strong,
lightweight, silvery-colored metal that is resistant to corrosion and has a high strength-
to-weight ratio. Titanium is the ninth most abundant element in the earth's crust and the fourth most abundant metallic element.
