Inside the Studio: Behind the Scenes of a Live Atmos Recording Session - the Technical Perspective
Step inside the studio as Adrian Weidmann, Founder & CEO of Immersive Design Labs (IDL), shares his recording philosophy that is the technical foundation for IDL. Adrian will share the creative and technical layout behind the live ATMOS immersive recording of Willy Porter and his band at the iconic EastWest Studio 1 using the Immersive Design Labs’ 7.0.4 mounting array, microphones and calibrated inputs to the DAW.
Hear how listening and optimally positioning the musicians, their acoustic instruments, electronic effects, and capturing that sound field with the calibrated IDL system provides an authentic musically immersive experience. Learn how this basic, unaltered approach incorporating the acoustic space as an active instrument empowers artists, stimulates creative intent, and enhances the recording process.

Understanding how we hear and process in our natural immersive world and leveraging acoustics to your advantage will allow you to make better stereo and immersive recordings. With tenures with Bruel & Kjaer and Audio Precision, Dan Foley has used his expertise in acoustics and electroacoustics measurements to develop his new studio- Do No Harm Studio, with variable acoustics. Dan is uniquely qualified to explain the importance of natural acoustics and the time domain in the ‘live’ recording of an immersive sound field using IDL’s 7.0.4 Immersive recording array along with the new IDL microphones.
